Answers to assignment 1

1)  Amoeba 2) drones are male honey bees. They are haploid & contains 16 chromosomes. Sperms produced by drones is through mitosis. 3) yes, cell divisions involved in gamete formation is not of the same type in different organisms. For eg: in monera, algae & fungi, gametes are haploid & are produced by mitotic divisions whereas in humans, pteridophytes & angiosperms, the parent body is diploid & produces haploid gametes with the help of meiotic division.  4) sexual reproduction is helpful in bringing new variations in the organisms that is not possible using asexual reproduction. Hence these variations produced may help algae & fungi to cope up with adverse  conditions. 5) a) three phases are  vegetative or juvenile phase, reproductive phase & senescent phase. b) in flowering plants, the vegetative propagules are the structure through which vegetative propagation takes place. Eg: of structures are runners, rhizome, sucker, tuber, o...

Sexual Reproduction in an Organisms

In today's class we will achieve the following learning outcomes : 1.Explain how the gametes are produced in different organisms. 2. Understand the transfer of gametes mechanism. 3. State & Explainthe fertilization events. 4. Distinguish between the zygote formation & Embryogenesis. 5. Define parthenocarpy & parthenogenesis. SEXUAL REPRODUCTION Definition : It is fusion of male & female gametes, which results in variation in an offsprings. Sexual Reproduction is divided into three main phases : 1) Pre- Fertilization Events. 2) Fertilization 3) Post - Fertilization Events. Pre Fertilization events :-  A) Formation of gamete also called as Gametogenesis - Gametes are formed through meiosis, in which a germ cell / mother cell undergoes two fission, resulting in the production of four gametes (n). Gametes may be identical ( isogamy) in certain species of algae, fungi & protozoan ormay be more than one morphological type ( anisogamy) found in ma...

Artificial vegetative propagation in plants

Today we will study about vegetative propagation in plants. This video is divided into following parts : Cutting Layering Grafting. * so we will be able to cover up what parts of plants are used for either of the above mentioned mechanism * how is the process done * common examples of the plants https://youtu.be/gxfUO3pYizI Other major topic that we will cover up is Micropropagation ( Plant Tissue Culture)  https://youtu.be/rmwe2rtDu-s I will give you assignments based on it tomorrow. Thanks

Dear students kindly start reading the first chapter  " Reproduction in Organism" the chapter will be divided into the following parts in this blog : Asexual Reproduction in animals  Vegetative propagation in plants  life span of a Living organism. Sexual Reproduction in Animals. Post events in Sexual Reproduction i will be posting some linked videos along with my notes snapshot that i will send to you throughout this chapter studies. Please feel free to ask your doubts on this portal . After  each topic taught there will be an  assignments given to you .Submit your assignments in soft copy and hard copy will be checked once you join the school. Each assignments questions will be based on  i) lower order thinking questions (LOTS)                                                         ...
